‘NEW TOWN RECLAMATION: Skelmersdale’
Reclamation was completed in one day with artists from Glassball and residents from Skelmersdale who collaborated with artist André Stitt and the public artwork, as part of the ILLUME project.
The concrete wall relief was an original artwork by Mike Cumiskey who was resident artist in Skelmersdale from 1966-1976. This piece forms part of four wall reliefs next to a series of underpasses along Railway Road and was made in 1967.
“The physical brutalism of Cumiskey’s underpasses in Skelmersdale are transitional portals that suggest that the new town environment was and is a multi-layered and liminal experience.” André Stitt
